Project Background

We are planning to create a shared path along Bestic Street, Kyeemagh.

Jointly funded by the Australian Government Building Australia and NSW Government, the project will create a safer, continuous route for people walking and riding. This upgrade will strengthen the connection in Kyeemagh, making it easier and safer to travel without a car.

This path is already popular, especially with families and school children. The improvements will make cycling more convenient and encourage more people to walk or ride as part of their everyday trips.

The upgrade is an important step towards better cycling infrastructure and improved connections across the region.

The final design is now on exhibition for 28 days.

Frequently Asked Questions

Resident driveway access will be temporarily affected during construction. Bayside Council will work closely with residents to minimise disruption. Further details about access restrictions will be provided closer to the construction period.

Council aims to minimise disruption however some temporary impact is expected with this project. Any changes to parking, property access or traffic flow will be communicated with residents well in advance.

The existing pedestrian footpath is not wide enough for a share path for use by both pedestrians and cyclists. The footpath is also of aged condition. Replacing the path with a wider, new surface will improve inclusiveness and accessibility, usage by a greater proportion of the community, enhance connections between key areas and retain existing trees. The path upgrade will provide better accessibility and connections within the local area.

No street trees are proposed to be removed. Council's Tree Management Officer and an independent arborist will be on site during construction to assess potential impacts to street trees and implementation of tree protection measures. Should a tree be recommended for removal, replacement trees will be planted. In addition, 20 locations have been identified for planting additional street trees in the future.

Construction is expected to commence in financial year 2026/2027 pending approvals.

The section from Francis Avenue to the Studdert Reserve bus stop will remain unchanged as it already meets the required width for a shared path.
