Cycling and walking is a great way to get around your local community, not only is it a healthy and sustainable transport option but it also reduces emissions, noise, congestion and frees up parking and public transport.
At Bayside we are committed to ensuring that our cycling and pedestrian community are provided safe and healthy transport options.
We are embarking on a 6 month trial of an on-road cycleway and pedestrian improvements on Russell Avenue, creating a safer cycling corridor between San Souci town centre and the Botany Bay foreshore.
Background
We understand the community want safer cycling and walking infrastructure that links our town centres and open spaces.
Russell Avenue is one of Bayside Council's distinctive boulevards, this trial project aims to enhance the boulevard by installing cycleways, new seating, water fountains and bike parking.
The changes will improve access to local businesses during their COVID-19 recovery and promote Russell Avenue as a safe, community-friendly boulevard for locals and visitors to the area
These improvements will narrow the wide vehicle lane and calm traffic. The proposal has been carefully designed to ensure no parking on either side of Russell Avenue is impacted.
