Project Background
In 2024, Bayside Council exhibited the Planning Proposal for Westfield Eastgardens, which received majority support from respondents. The Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI) has since finalised the Planning Proposal.
Some design elements will now be considered through a future development application process (DA). To guide this process, a site-specific amendment to the Bayside Development Control Plan (BDCP) 2022 has been prepared and is now on exhibition.
The draft BDCP amendment sets out design guidance for the Eastgardens Centre, focusing on built form, public spaces, transport, and connectivity. Key features include:
- A new public plaza along Bunnerong Road
- An improved bus interchange
- Active community hubs
- Safer, more pedestrian-friendly streets
