Have Your Say
We want to hear from you. Your local knowledge is vital to shaping this project.
Council is delivering its third EV charging rollout for the installation of public kerbside charging stations.
Council is proposing 25 sites for community feedback. From this engagement, thirteen sites will be installed by June 2026, while the remaining 12 will be shortlisted to inform future installations.
This rollout supports Council’s goals in our Environment and Resilience Strategy 2024–2032 and our commitment to a sustainable transport future by reducing emissions, encouraging EV adoption, and providing practical charging solutions for residents and our visitors.
By strategically installing charging stations, the project aims to enhance local infrastructure while aligning with Council’s environmental and sustainability goals, as previously embraced during the 2023 trial program, funded by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA).
The objective of this project is to collaborate with private operators to expand EV kerbside charging infrastructure across the entire LGA, ensuring accessible and convenient charging solutions for the community.

At the February 2026 City Services Committee Meeting, Council agreed to install another 13 kerbside EV chargers in addition to the charging locations selected from the last 2025 EV engagement. You can read the minutes pertaining to this item here.
The 13 sites will be approved from the list of 25 proposed locations. Consultation is now open via this project page.
Council staff are now delivering the project in line with that recommendation.

More info: Draft Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Policy
The selection of charger locations has been carefully guided by a set of key criteria to ensure the rollout is effective, equitable, and minimally disruptive. These criteria include but not limited to:
These charging stations will have allocated ‘EV while charging only’ spaces. The following parking restrictions will apply: Monday to Sunday, 6am-6pm, 2-4 hour parking limit. Meaning all parking outside of this time will be available to non-EV charging
All locations have been selected carefully to minimise disruption, where possible, as per Bayside’s Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Policy 2024.
This program is funded by the NSW Government’s EV kerbside charging infrastructure fund - Round 2, and contribution fund from private charging operators. This covers the cost for the installation of all EV charging units.

An EV (Electric Vehicle) charger is a device that transfers electricity from a power source to recharge an EV's battery.
Inside the vehicle, an onboard charger converts incoming AC power into DC to charge the battery.
However, high-speed DC chargers bypass this step by supplying direct current straight to the battery, eliminating the need for internal conversion.
Council will ensure the installation of universal chargers, making them compatible with all electric vehicles.
Additionally, the guidelines specify that charging cables must be long enough to reach any part of a parking space, accommodating EVs with different charging port locations.
All chargers will meet Australian Standards (CCS2)
The time required to charge an electric vehicle depends on the charger's power level. There are three main types of EV chargers:
The proposed AC chargers offer varying speeds. The proposed AC Chargers (22KW three-phase) can deliver up to 120 km per hour.
The EV chargers will be designed to accommodate individuals with disabilities, as the guidelines require providers to install charging infrastructure that complies with the Disability Discrimination Act 1992. This includes adherence to current accessibility standards (AS2890.5 / AS2890.6).
Carparks are not included in the scope of this current project.
The charging rates for EV chargers supplied by private providers will vary, as each provider sets their own pricing. These charges may include penalty rate may apply if your car remains parked after it is fully charged.
EV drivers may be required to download either the EVX or Exploren app to access the charger. Since the chargers are managed by private operators, their usage rules and costs are determined by these operators.
The EV charging infrastructure is managed by approved private operators, who are accountable for installation, operation, ongoing maintenance, and removal.
Council will review the usage of the installed EV charging stations. Sites that fall below expected usage levels may be subject to removal.
Each charger will display contact details of the private charging operator for reporting any issues.
