Bayside Council is proposing a change to the current ward boundaries, to better reflect local communities.

The impacted wards are Ward 3 (former Rockdale) and Ward 4 (former Bexley).

Background

Local Government Areas may be divided into wards or undivided, without wards. Currently, Bayside Council is divided into five wards. Councils may adjust their ward boundaries in accordance with section 210 of the Local Government Act 1993 (the Act).

Section 211 of the Act states that there cannot be a variation of more than 10% between the numbers of electors in each ward. The current proposed changes fall under 10%.

What's the change?

Changing the ward boundaries will mean that:

• The localities of Kingsgrove, Bexley North and northern Bexley will move from Ward 3 to Ward 4.
• The localities of Kogarah and a small area of Rockdale will move from Ward 4 to Ward 3. You can view a map showing affected areas here.

The number of electors in each ward are shown in the table below. The variation between wards will still be within 10%.
