The primary objectives/key focus areas of the proposed Walking & Cycling Advisory Committee are:

• Active Transport: Enhancing walking, cycling and other micromobility devices/infrastructure and safety
• Public Domain Initiatives: Advising on how public spaces can support smart transport and the transportation hierarchy
• Car Share: Expanding access to car-sharing services as a sustainable alternative to car ownership
• EV Transition: Supporting the shift to electric vehicles and the necessary charging infrastructure.

• Anyone who has an interest in the Bayside Local Government Area
• Groups e.g BikEast, St George Bicycle Users Group (BUG) and Walk Sydney
• Anyone who has an interest in walking and/or cycling
• Anyone who have specialised knowledge and interest in active recreation.

If appointed to the advisory committee, you will represent the interests of the wider community by providing advice on the strategic direction, priorities and policy principles, specifically to foster a healthier, more connected community by prioritising walking, cycling, and public transport over private vehicles.

This is a voluntary role that involves attending regular meetings. Additional meetings may be scheduled as required.

Draft Terms of the Reference are being prepared and will be considered by Council prior to the establishment of the Advisory Committee and selection of representatives.

Council has resolved to establish a Walking & Cycling Advisory Committee and is calling for Expressions of Interest (EOI).

The purpose of the proposed Walking & Cycling Advisory Committee is to provide advice on the strategic direction, priorities and policy principles, specifically to foster a healthier, more connected community by prioritising walking, cycling, and public transport over private vehicles. Its focus is to align Council’s transport initiatives with climate targets, promote active and sustainable mobility options, as well as reduce greenhouse gas emissions, ensuring Bayside’s evolution towards a net zero future.

Safe walking and cycling routes reduce traffic congestion, parking, vehicle emissions, noise pollution, and our cost of living. Equally, safe walking and cycling routes can strengthen community connections, physical and mental well-being and community satisfaction.

The creation of the Bayside Walking & Cycling Committee is supported by Council and Council encourages groups like BikEast, St George Bicycle Users Group (BUG) and Walk Sydney to participate.
