Bayside Council is proposing to add a ramp following the requests from community between Swinbourne Street and Brighton Street and Trevelyan Street (east side). This ramp will improve pedestrian access and also provide people with limited mobility and prams safe access via the footpath to the open space, public transport and café to the north.
What's happening now?
Currently there are stairs at this intersection meaning people who are unable to use the stairs must either walk down the road or avoid taking this route. The project will:
- Remove the existing stairs to Trevelyan Street to allow space for the ramp to be constructed
- Retain the stairs to Brighton Street
- Construct a ramp at a gradient that meets standards including provision of a hand rail.
- Construct a new pram ramp on the north side of Brighton Street connecting to the existing footpath.
