Project Background

Council is renewing Barwell Park to create a more accessible, family friendly and vibrant space that celebrates its heritage.

The renewal will deliver an inclusive playspace, accessible pathways, additional seating and shade. Restored garden beds and refreshed landscaping will enhance biodiversity while celebrating the park’s original 1928 character.

Have Your Say! We’d love your feedback on the proposed park improvements. Your input will help finalise the design to ensure Barwell Park continues to serve the community for years to come.

Frequently Asked Questions

Construction is proposed to commence in Autumn 2026.

The playspace will be unavailable for use during the construction period (approx. 4 months), there are other alternative playspaces nearby. The nearest playspaces are Dominey Reserve (500m away) and Evatt Park (550m away).

Some of the park will be affected during construction of the new paths, garden beds, and during tree and other planting works. Construction areas will be fenced and signposted to ensure public safety. Work will be limited to approved Council hours:

Monday to Saturday - 7am to 5pm

No work on Sundays or public holidays

Council follows the State Government’s “Everyone Can Play” guidelines, Australian Standards and best practice. Playspaces are designed to be as inclusive as possible within the budget allocated to the project, the playspace hierarchy and site limitations and features.

A number of site constraints have influenced the design. This includes the close proximity to an existing residence, topography, limited available space to create a level play space, given the park character of batters and levelled areas, which need to be respected from a heritage perspective.

Barwell Park playspace is classified as a “neighbourhood” hierarchy playspace that caters to the local community, generally within walking distance. The hierarchy of the playspace determines its size and types/range of play equipment. This project is a playspace renewal, so the new playspace will be slightly expanded but be a similar size to the existing area.
