Light spill occurs when artificial light shines beyond the area it's intended to illuminate.

Council acknowledges the potential environmental impacts of artificial lighting, particularly on local wildlife and sensitive ecological areas. To help address this, the proposed lighting system has been designed to minimise light spill by directing illumination precisely onto the courts and using shielding technology to reduce glare and light trespass. This aims to ensure that nearby natural areas are protected from unnecessary exposure to artificial light and to minimise the impact on the surrounding neighbourhood, natural areas, and wildlife.

Yes. The Scarborough Park Tennis Courts currently operate from 7am to sunset. The proposed development may result ( dependent on a DA application) in extended operating hours from 7am to 10pm Monday to Friday, and until 7am - 7pm Saturday to Sunday.

Court lights will dim 15 minutes before the closing time and turn off at closing time.

The light poles will be installed using the footings, electrical pits, turrets, and conduits that are already in place by Council during the construction of the Scarborough Park Tennis Courts Project.

The cost of the install of the lights and the maintenance of the lights will be covered by the tenant being Sydney Sports Management Group.

There is currently no Development Application (DA) in place for this proposal. At this stage, Council is seeking feedback from the local community before any lights are installed by the tenant. Once the consultation is complete and community feedback has been reviewed, Council will determine whether a DA is required and what the next steps will be.
