Project Background

Council is renewing the playspace at AE Watson Reserve, Gladstone Street, Bexley, to provide more play options and improve the reserve for the community.

The improved playspace will feature new, contemporary and inclusive play equipment designed to support imaginative play and gross motor skill development for children aged 2–12 years old.

  • Inclusive and imaginative play equipment
  • Nature play elements
  • Circuit scooter track
  • Softfall surfacing
  • Access path connecting to the playspace
  • New park furniture (benches, seating for supervision)
  • Shade sails for sun protection

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQS)

Certified rubber safety surfacing for most areas of the playspace to be accessible and inclusive. It allows for foot stability for the very young and reduced maintenance in high wear and tear areas, such as under swings and at the end of slides. The nature play area will be a mulched surface.

AE Watson Reserve playspace is classified as a small neighborhood hierarchy playspace that caters to the local community generally within walking distance. The hierarchy of the playspace determines its size and types/range of play equipment. This project is a playspace renewal so the new playspace will be a similar size to existing.

Council follows the State Government’s “Everyone Can Play” guidelines, Australian Standards and best practice. Playspaces are designed to be as inclusive as possible within the budget allocated to the project, the playspace hierarchy and site limitations and features.

Construction is expected to commence end of Summer 2026.

The existing playspace area will not be available for use during construction.

The nearest playspace is Seaforth Park, 450 metres to the east.

Construction area/s will be fenced and signposted to ensure public safety. Work will be limited to approved Council hours:

Monday to Saturday - 7am to 5pm

No work on Sundays or public holidays
