We are proposing names for two new parks in Rockdale and Arncliffe.
We have been working with the Geographical Names Board (GNB) and our First Nations Workers Group to establish the new names. When creating a new name, the GNB is required to publicly exhibit the name, these two proposals are now on exhibition.
The proposed names are -
- Pemulwuy Park (Pronunciation - Pem-ul-woy), proposed name for Marsh Street open space in Arncliffe. The name Pemulwuy recognises the historical First Nations leader.
- Gujaga Park (Pronunciation - Goo-jar-gar), proposed name for Ador Reserve Precinct (former Rockdale Bowling Club) . The name Gujaga is an Aboriginal word for child/play.
You can find out more about each proposal including historical reference information on the GNP site, to read more about Pemulwuy Park click here for Gujaga Park click here.
