Project background
The car park at Depena Reserve and Cook Park, Sandringham, is being upgraded to keep up with the development of the surrounding area and to address community concerns regarding accessibility, safety, hooning and traffic circulation at the location.
The project
The proposed upgrade includes all car park areas at the northern end of Depena Reserve (off Russell Avenue and Malua Street).
The design aims to:
- Improve safety and deter hooning
- Increase manoeuvrability within the car park
- Increase the efficiency and capacity of the car park with the potential to return portions of the car park back to the reserve
- Reduce traffic congestion, especially during school drop-off and pick-up times
- Improve accessibility for pedestrians
- Potential to open Skinners Avenue and Carruthers Driver into the new carpark.
The design provides a small increase in car parking spaces and ensures all trees are retained.
