Project Background

Bayside Council is shaping the future of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in our organisation. We have prepared a Draft AI Policy to guide how AI will be introduced and used responsibly across our services.

This policy is about ensuring that AI benefits our community, is applied transparently, and is always guided by human oversight and accountability.

The Draft AI Policy is based on five key principles:

  • Community Benefit – AI will deliver the best outcomes for the community.
  • Fairness – Safeguards will be in place to reduce bias and support equity.
  • Privacy and Security – Community data will be protected and respected.
  • Transparency – AI use will be open and explainable.
  • Accountability – Human oversight and responsibility remain central.

By introducing this policy, Bayside Council is taking a proactive step in responsible AI leadership at the local government level. The policy sets a strong benchmark for today while remaining flexible enough to adapt as AI technology evolves.
