Access to leisure and recreational opportunities is important for the quality of life of Bayside residents. As our population grows, the green corridors will be critical for ensuring these opportunities are provided. We need to make sure we are using each corridor to its full potential.
Bayside Priority Green Grid Corridors
The "Green Grid" is a network of green spaces made up of parks, sporting fields, areas of cultural significance, bushland, waterways, and walking and cycling paths.
Three Priority Green Grid Corridors have been identified in Bayside:
- Bardwell Valley Parklands and Wolli Creek
- Rockdale Wetlands Corridor
- Mill Stream and Botany Wetlands Corridor
Each corridor has its own unique opportunities and challenges. They are large areas being used for a variety of recreational activities, with multiple stakeholders invested in their future (including government bodies, sporting associations and community groups). A key purpose of this project is to plan how we connect these places, to provide an oasis of open space running through our urban environment. There is no impact on existing leases, hire agreements, endorsed Masterplans or day-to-day business. Enhancing the corridors will be a long term process consisting of numerous smaller projects. To understand land ownership, existing recreational opportunities, key public transport links and cycle routes, view our detailed maps.
What's happening now
We are working together with the State Government to develop a coordinated and overarching plan for each corridor known as a 'Spatial Framework'.
Through previous engagements, we already know that Bayside residents value open spaces which are:
- Well-planned and well-developed
- Multi-purpose
- Connected
- Inclusive
- Preserved and protected
The Spatial Frameworks will build on this feedback and what we have learned from technical studies. For each corridor, they will:
- Outline a vision for the future.
- Set clear aims and objectives.
- Identify important projects for enhancing the corridor.
- Identify where walking and cycling tracks could be created or improved.
- Capture opportunities to partner with other organisations.
We have already met with numerous stakeholders, you can read more here.
We would now like to hear from you, to help us identify opportunities to enhance our corridors.

Based on the NSW Government's advice to practice social distancing and limit gatherings, we will be conducting community consultation online.
