herehereCouncil is committed to making our community more inclusive to ensure everybody has the same opportunities to participate in all aspects of community life. Council is seeking expressions of interest (EOI) from community members to join the Disability Inclusion Action Plan Working Group.

Background

The Bayside Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2022 – 2026 (DIAP) was adopted by Council in May 2022 after extensive community engagement with people with disability, their families and support people. The DIAP outlines how Council will improve and maintain access and inclusion for people with disability who live, work or visit Bayside and guide Council's actions over the next four years to 2026. The DIAP includes actions across the following focus areas:

  • Liveable communities
  • Systems and processes
  • Access to meaningful employment
  • Attitudes and behaviours

Bayside Council is now seeking to establish a community working group to drive and implement the DIAP.

The Working Group

The objectives of the DIAP Working Group are to:

  • bring people with lived experience and peak organisations representing people with disability together to support the implementation, monitoring and ongoing development of the DIAP
  • empower people with disability to inform the actions in the DIAP
  • provide a framework to address the major focus areas in the DIAP through engagement, consultation, governance, and accountability
  • support the integration of the DIAP into Council’s organisational culture
  • improve communication, collaboration and education through information sharing between Council, people with disability and the community.

Who is eligible to submit an EOI?

The Working Group will be made up of community representatives that include:

  • People living with disability
  • People caring for someone with disability
  • Service providers who have specialist knowledge or interest in disability issues
  • Sporting clubs, community groups, and other recreation and leisure providers
  • Disability employment service providers

What will be involved if appointed?

If appointed to the working group, you will represent the interests of the wider community in the delivery of the DIAP. This is a voluntary role that involves attending meetings quarterly. Additional meetings may be scheduled as required. Please read the Terms of Reference (TOR) for more information on the purpose and structure of the working group.
